Do you already have solar panels?

Savings assume you install this sized solar with the battery. Typical new system: 6.6 kW.

When do you plan to install?

The federal rebate steps down from 1 January 2027. Your result updates when you change this.

We will find the smallest battery stack (up to 100 kWh) that reaches your target energy cost from the grid, using the same assumptions as the main calculator.

How much do you want to back up?

Typical solar battery costs in Australia

Most homes pay about $7,500 to $17,000 installed before rebates. After the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, many land closer to $5,500 to $12,000. A common 10 kWh system often nets around $6,484-$11,484 before any state incentive.

Why you can trust these numbers

Most calculators hide your result behind an email form or skip the state rebate detail. We do the opposite: accurate rebate-stacking, shown instantly, with our working in the open.

Rebate-stacking accuracy

We combine the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program (STC-based, tapered for larger systems) with the specific scheme in your state or territory - so the net cost reflects every rebate you can actually claim.

Sourced and dated

Every figure shows the official source and the date it was last verified (rebate data as of July 2026). When programs change - including the federal step-down on 1 January 2027 - we update the model.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a solar battery cost in Australia?

Most home batteries cost about $7,500 to $17,000 installed before rebates in 2026. After the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program, many households pay closer to $5,500 to $12,000 depending on size and brand. See our solar battery cost guide for price tables by size and model, then use the calculator above for a personalised net cost.

How much is the federal battery rebate in 2026?

The federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program discounts roughly $251.60 per usable kWh of battery capacity from May to December 2026, delivered as small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and applied by your installer at the point of sale. The value tapers for larger systems and steps down again on 1 January 2027, so the sooner you install the larger the discount. Read our Cheaper Home Batteries Program guide for taper rules and eligibility basics.

Which Australian states still have battery rebates in 2026?

Western Australia (Residential Battery Scheme, from $1,300) still offers an upfront state rebate that stacks with the federal program. New South Wales offers a one-off VPP incentive plus a zero-interest loan. Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and the Northern Territory have closed their state battery rebates, so you receive the federal rebate only. The ACT and Tasmania offer interest-free loans rather than upfront rebates. See our state rebate comparison guide and VPP guide for current rules by jurisdiction.

How big a home battery do I need?

Most Australian homes land between 10 and 20 kWh of usable storage. The right size depends on your daily electricity use, whether you already have solar, and how much of the home you want to back up during an outage. Read our battery sizing guide or enter your details above and the calculator recommends a size in seconds.

Is a home battery worth it in Australia?

With the federal rebate plus any state incentive, payback periods have shortened considerably. Whether a battery pays for itself depends on your electricity rate, usage pattern, existing solar and the rebates available in your state. Read our home battery worth-it guide or use the calculator above for your estimated net cost, annual savings and payback period.

Do I need to give my email to see the result?
